Favorite work-out song: I love rock and rap, but honestly there's so much great music out there I can't pick one favorite! Usually I have a favorite of the day or week.
Favorite post-work-out meal: peanut butter and jelly anything: sandwich, shake, crackers, etc.
What you do when you’re not training: hang out with my family, cook, sleep, play with my dogs, write, listen to podcasts, travel, home projects...
Proudest accomplishment: I know it sounds weird, but I'm actually extremely proud of my relationship with my family. It's not exactly MY accomplishment, since we are all in it together, but it is something that I am the most proud of. My husband is a great man, and my son is really a wonderful kid, who is growing up to be a great man. I'm so proud of both of them, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world to have both of them in my life.
Toughest moment and how you persevered through it: Probably the time period when I was getting sober. I didn't have much going for me and I had a lot of amends to make. I felt like a total failure, and to be honest, I basically was. Trudging through that time was the toughest thing I've ever done. It took a long time to make life decent again, it was difficult. Fortunately, I had a lot of help from my family and friends. I leaned on them, asked for help, and tried to keep doing the right thing. Eventually I was able to start seeing how good life had gotten, instead of how bad it had gotten.
What does being a Human Weapon mean to you: For me, martial arts is about being the best person I can be. Being a Human Weapon means martial arts is a journey. It's not about blood and gore and being the toughest- it's about being the best we can be and using martial arts to achieve it.
Advice to others on their warrior’s journey: be consistent! Show up for yourself every day in some way. Skills take time and consistency to develop, if you consistently put in the work, your skills will develop.
